GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS
Here's my ego speaking. The good news is that I'll continue to post on Gather for the foreseeable future even though it's not improved for ages from its slump last spring, members have slithered away like ghosts from the Marie Celeste and important features like the views figure seem to have gone for good – and all despite considerable advertising, including that annoying one that highlights the odd word here and there in my text and turns them into advertising links . But the site's been a home for my waffle for a few years and I've still got a few friends here. But loyalty: no. I no longer feel any loyalty to the site itself.
The bad news is I'm going to simultaneously slip my stuff onto Facebook (where it gets more views anyway), not as Notes because Notes are hopeless on Facebook, but as rather long Status entries, and if you want to find me I'm under my own name over there.
I also tend to post oddments on Bubblews (which I dislike intensely) and MyBoomerPlace which seems almost as derelict as Gather is becoming.
You know what I'm beginning to hope? That MySpace starts its blogging facilities again!!! Can you imagine that? And it just shows how low Gather has sunk in my estimation – that I should ever want a return to MySpace!!!
But I do see myself drifting ever further away from Gather. Every annoying wait for a page to load, every time I wish I'd had notification of what someone else has said, every time I find myself wondering if anyone has read my latest meanderings, every time the ads get in the way of my words – all these things nudge me away. But for the meantime I'll hang around, sort of.
