mourning,dove,sparrow,birds,birdseed,nature,photo,snow,winter
Mourning Dove and Sparrow - It was so cold out today that I felt sorry for the birds - we only have 2 feeders - so I spread a bunch of birdseed on the stones by our porch. It created a feeding frenzy, and I caught a mourning dove sharing the feast with a sparrow.

Yep, a Mourning dove. We have a couple of pairs that spend the winter near our house.

Indeed it is, Betty! We've had at least 2 pairs of them nesting near our house for the past many years, and we welcome them. :-)

So pretty! I usually throw a handful of sunflower seeds on the ground. The cardinals seem to prefer eating on the ground.

Oh yes, I do the same for the cardinals since our bird feeders seem to be just a tad small for them. But I've put an extended perch on one of our feeders just for the larger birds, though I haven't been able to catch them using it yet. :-)

Beautiful photo, Gary. I too feel so sorry for them. I keep feed out for them as much as possible. That Dove is really happy!

Thanks so much Angela! I've been trying to be regular about putting some seed on the ground for them (if the snow isn't too deep) so they don't have to compete for the feeder all the time.
